:: Dr. Luo's speech

Good evening, her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce, the honourable Premier Peter Beattie, Madam Fuying, Madam Liufei, special guests, ladies and gentlemen:

We are here tonight to celebrate the launch of the Consulate of the People's Republic of China in Brisbane. On behalf of the Queensland Chinese community, I wish to extend the warmest welcome to the consulate members and express our congratulations on the establishment of the consulate.

The current relationship between China and Australia is better than ever before. A Chnese consulate in Brisbane will undoubtedly enhance this relationship through economic and culture exchange, especially with Queensland. It will also provide an opportunity for Queenslanders to better understand and appreciate Chinese culture. And, in a special sense, it will be more convenient for locals to access Embassy services.

A local Consulate will also enable the Queensland Chinese community to establish closer ties with the Chinese Embassy and this close collaboration can further enhance the friendship between Queensland and China.

Brisbane is Australia's most liveable city and Queensland is most beautiful state, so I hope that the Consulate members will enjoy your time here. Once again, I express my gladness of the launch of the Chinese Consulate in Brisbane.

Thank you.
